Active Bunch is a San Diego, California based business which sprang up in the recent wave of government and social programs pushing people to be more active. The folks at Active Bunch realized that with the rise in enthusiasm for sports and fitness, people need a network to find fitness opportunities because sometimes the hardest part about diving into sports is figuring out where to go.

Active Bunch is a social network for sports-minded individuals. In a few simple steps you can select your field of fitness interest and connect with other athletes in your area. Like the tag line says: Find Sports Meet Friends.

User Experience for Sport Web Platform: From Research to Final Product


Since the objective of the platform was to simplify the search process, it was important that the user interface be as basic as possible. It was designed so that would-be athletes could simply log in, choose a sport or sports, set a schedule, and instantly receive a variety of fitness options in their area.

Our task was to take their great idea and highlight the variety of activities available, the fun that’s a finger touch away, and the facility of use. With that in mind, the logo needed to echo the simplicity of the service while also showing its sporty side. We kept the font in the name simple and solid since it speaks for itself but we had fun with the ‘T’—modifying it to look like a figure in motion. This minor adjustment made a major upgrade to the brand’s ability to instantly target the correct market. It is simple. It is sports. It is sports made simple.

USER FRIENDLY INTERFACE DESIGN


To emphasize the usability of the platform, it was important to market its accessibility on mobile devices. Using the same visual language from the logo, we designed a set of icons to represent all the sports and activities accessible through Active Bunch. Keeping things simple, users are able to navigate the app by quickly clicking on different pictograms rather than reading through lists of text. Icon design is probably the best way to communicate with consumers in this kind of market so we rose to the challenge. It was a new experience for us to build a system with this simplified visual language while maintaining continuity in art direction. After a month of hard work, the icon set was ready to be released.

Working on our skills


Just Like in sports this service is continuously improving. After brand architecture, logo design and art direction this service has potential for more branding. Water Bottles, T-shirts, flags are still in progress so keep up and who knows maybe we will click on the same sport and meet!
